Does anyone Truly believe that the world will end on 21 december 2012 as the Mayans foretold?

As most of you may know there is allot of hype around the world ending on the 21st of december 2012. This is when the mayan calender ends. I was wondering if anyone truly believe that this is going to happen and if it is all just speculation and theories or if there is actually any real proof that this could happen?
