Would it be okay to wear white & black together?

My graduation is coming up & i have to dress nicely but finding a dress that looks good on me with the styles out right now is REALLY hard (they all make my hips look HUGE). Well i have this black dress but all the black shoes i have have a stiletto heal & my graduation is outside in the grass. but i have the wedge heals that are a creamy white & i figure since my (cap &) gown will be covering my dress anyway that it would be okay to wear them together? I mean the shoes would look really nice with my (cap &) gown.
